Pearl Harbor tours at a glance
Pearl Harbor is on Oahu, about 20 minutes from Waikiki and next to Honolulu airport. It is an active Navy base, and the memorials are run by the National Park Service and partner museums. There are four main historic sites:
- USS Arizona Memorial: a documentary film and Navy boat ride to the memorial over the sunken battleship. Included on every tour.
- Battleship Missouri: the "Mighty Mo", where Japan surrendered on September 2, 1945.
- Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum: WWII aircraft in historic hangars on Ford Island.
- USS Bowfin Submarine Museum: a WWII submarine you can walk through.
Staying on Oahu? See tours from Waikiki. Staying on another island? Tours include airfare from Maui, the Big Island and Kauai.
Frequently asked questions
Which Pearl Harbor tour is best?
It depends on your time. The Complete Pearl Harbor Experience visits all four sites. Battleships of WWII covers the USS Arizona and Battleship Missouri. Pearl Harbor and Historic Honolulu is a shorter option that works well with children.
How long should I plan for Pearl Harbor?
The USS Arizona Memorial program takes about 75 minutes. Tours range from about 4 hours to a full day, depending on how many sites they include.
Do I need to book Pearl Harbor in advance?
Yes, if you can. USS Arizona Memorial seats are limited each day and walk-up tickets can run out, especially in busy seasons. A tour reserves your place.
Is Pearl Harbor good for kids?
Yes. The museums have interactive exhibits and a guide brings the history to life. With young children, a shorter tour is usually easier.
Does the guide go onto the USS Arizona Memorial?
No. The memorial is a war grave run by the National Park Service, so guides don't narrate on the boat or the memorial. Your guide covers the history on the way to Pearl Harbor and meets you afterwards.
Can I bring a bag to Pearl Harbor?
No. Bags that can conceal items are not allowed, including purses, backpacks, fanny packs, camera bags and diaper bags. Carry essentials in your pockets or a small clear plastic bag. Paid bag storage is available near the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, and bags can't be left on the tour vehicle.
When is Pearl Harbor closed?
The Pearl Harbor Visitor Center is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. On December 7 it is very busy, so it is not the best day for a first visit.
