On December 7, 2026, the nation marks 85 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, the morning that drew the United States into World War II and claimed the lives of more than 2,400 Americans. If you’re in Hawaii around the anniversary, being at Pearl Harbor is a moving way to honor those who served and those who were lost.
The National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony
Each year, survivors’ families, veterans, service members and visitors gather at Pearl Harbor National Memorial for the official remembrance ceremony. For 2026, the ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 7, from about 7:30 to 9:00 AM on the memorial grounds, and it is open to the public. Traditionally the ceremony includes a moment of silence at 7:55 AM, the minute the attack began in 1941, along with a flyover, wreath presentations and military honors.
A livestream is usually offered for those who can’t attend. Always confirm final details with the National Park Service and Pacific Historic Parks, as schedules can change.
What to expect on the anniversary
- Large crowds and heavy security: expect road closures, traffic and full parking lots around Pearl Harbor.
- Changes to regular programs: USS Arizona Memorial boat programs and some sites may run on modified schedules on and around December 7.
- A deeply respectful atmosphere: this is a day of remembrance rather than a typical sightseeing day.
Planning your visit
Reserve early
USS Arizona Memorial program tickets are released in advance on Recreation.gov and are in high demand around the anniversary. Hotels in Honolulu and Waikiki also fill up, so book as early as you can.
Consider the days around December 7
If you want to tour the memorials, museums and battleships without the anniversary crowds, plan your full visit a day or two before or after, and attend the ceremony itself on the 7th.
Let a tour handle the logistics
A guided tour takes care of transportation, timing and parking, which matters most on busy days. Our Complete Pearl Harbor Experience covers the memorials and museums in depth, while the Pearl Harbor & Historic Honolulu City Tour pairs the USS Arizona Memorial with Honolulu’s historic sites. Visiting from another island? We also run Pearl Harbor tours from Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.
Tips for a meaningful visit
- Dress respectfully and comfortably; many visitors wear red, white and blue or aloha attire.
- Leave bags at your hotel: Pearl Harbor has a strict no-bag policy.
- Arrive very early on December 7.
- Bring water, sun protection and patience.
- Take a quiet moment at the USS Arizona Memorial to read the names of the fallen.
