How Much Time Do You Need at Pearl Harbor? Half-Day vs. Full-Day Plans

Explore the best Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor is much more than the USS Arizona Memorial. There are four historic sites, two museums and a large visitor center, so the most common question visitors ask is: how much time do I really need? The short answer is at least half a day, and a full day if you want to see everything.

The Pearl Harbor sites at a glance

  • Pearl Harbor National Memorial & Visitor Center: free museums, exhibits and the waterfront. Allow about an hour.
  • USS Arizona Memorial program: a documentary film plus a Navy-operated boat to the memorial. Allow roughly 75 minutes.
  • Battleship Missouri Memorial: the ship where World War II ended. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum & USS Bowfin: allow about an hour.
  • Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum: historic hangars on Ford Island. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours.

The Missouri and the Aviation Museum are on Ford Island, reached by a shuttle bus from the visitor center, so add travel time between sites.

Half-day plan (about 4 to 5 hours)

Perfect if you want the essentials and an afternoon free for the beach or sightseeing:

  • Visitor center exhibits
  • USS Arizona Memorial program
  • One additional site, usually the Battleship Missouri

Our Pearl Harbor & Historic Honolulu City Tour is a great fit: you’ll see the USS Arizona Memorial, then a guided drive past Honolulu’s historic landmarks.

Full-day plan (about 7 to 9 hours)

For history lovers who want the complete story, from attack to surrender:

  • Visitor center and USS Arizona Memorial in the morning
  • Battleship Missouri
  • USS Bowfin submarine
  • Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum

Book the Complete Pearl Harbor Experience for the deepest experience, or the Battleships of WWII Tour to focus on the ships that began and ended the war for the United States.

Pearl Harbor plus Oahu sightseeing

If you’d rather combine history with scenery, the Pearl Harbor & Oahu Mini Circle Island Tour adds a coastal loop after the memorial, while the full-day Pearl Harbor, Dole Plantation & Polynesian Cultural Center Tour covers three of Oahu’s biggest attractions in one day.

Tips to make the most of your time

  • Start early. The visitor center opens at 7 AM and mornings are cooler and calmer.
  • Reserve USS Arizona Memorial tickets in advance, or book a tour that handles timing for you.
  • Leave bags behind to skip the bag-storage line.
  • Plan lunch: food options on site are limited, so eat before or after your visit.
